There is a small book about the Linebarger family titled "Family of Five Flags" which I found many years ago in the DAR Library in Washington, D.C. It traces the history of the family as they migrated from Switzerland through Alsace-Lorraine and then to North Carolina and as some family migrated on westward through Indiana, Illinois and Oregon. There were several spellings of the name as I remember[Leuenberger, Lionberger, Lineberger and Linebarger]. From the notes I have with me, John Linebarger's parents were Peter & Susanah Linebarger. I'll check my documents to see if I can find her maiden name. I do know that Peter died in 1803. Peter's parents were Hans & Elizabeth Leuenberger. Hans was born in Alsace-Lorraine in 1685 and died at sea in 1735. My great grandmother Virginia Linebarger was a daughter of Lewis LInebarger [son of John Linebarger and Mary Hoote]. She and my great grandfather John Thomas Gilmour were married in Albany, Oregon in 1862 and around 1880 migrated to Ellensburg, WA. I have a family chart of Virginia's brothers and sisters; some stayed in Oregon and a couple of them moved south to So. California.
