Hi Laura, Thanks for your response.I tried to send you an email, but it came back as undeliverable. As far as I can determine, your John decends from Peter Leyenberger [or Leuenberger], born about 1727 in Wittelsheim, Alsace (a canton of Berne, Switzerland.Peter was a brother of my Johannes Leyenberger [or Leuenberger], born before 1720 in Wittelsheim, Alsace. We think their father, Hans, was born about 1685 in Alsace.
There was another brother, Lewis, born about 1734, in Wittelsheim.
In a nutshell: they all sailed to America in 1735 and arrived in Philadelphia about August 1735. The father,Hans died at sea before they arrived.
There is some uncertainty as to the ship they sailed on.
After a short time in Pennsylvania, we know that Johannes and Peter settled in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Somewhere along the way the name became Linebarger.
Peter married a person by the name of Susannah [last name unknown]. He died 1803 in Lincoln County, NC.
Their son John was born 17 Apr 1771 and died 8 Dec 1854.He married Katherine Miller on 28 Jan 1784 in Lincoln County, NC. Their children, all born in Lincoln County, NC were: 1. Sophia Linebarger b. 24 May 1795 2. Margaret [Peggy] Linebarger b. 1796 3. Michael E. Linebarger b. 2 Jul 1798 4. Susannah Linebarger b. 26 Jul 1800 5. Martin Linebarger b. 21 Jan 1803 6. Hannah Linebarger b. 12 Mar 1805 7. Frederick Linebarger b. 27 Sep 1809
I'm not certain when Katherine died, but John married Mary Marshall on 12 Jun 1834 in Lincoln County, NC.
That's about all I know about your John Linebarger at this point.
