The line of Jonathan Lingo and Martha Unknown 'seems' to be the parents of E. (?Elmer) Wesley LINGO. I know for a fact there are more Wesley Lingos, but none that fit his birth year of about 1853 in either TN ...or in MO after his parents left TN. (If I believe the 1870 census which states TN rather than MO for Jonathan)
I've searched the census off an on for several years ..not just now starting. However, LINGO is not a direct bloodline, so I do not spend nearly as much time on it as I have my direct lines. My interest in side lines is that they often help lead back to my own direct lines.
Are you saying that the LINGO family which goes back to 1624 is the root ancestors for all LINGOs? That situation does sometimes occur (as in my AGEE line) ...but in the case of my McLAIN / McLEAN line, they straggled themselves out over a hundred years or so, arriving in different timeframes.
Thanks for your suggestions Linda, and I might spend more time on the LINGOs later on...
I hoped that perhaps you had more kowledge about your McLAIN line as well as LINGOs and SMITHs ...and as to how they might have tracked in their migrations.
You'll find my research (and that of several cousins) on the Charles McLAIN b 1784 NC and wife Elizabeth who left NC for KY... about 1790-1800 perhaps... and then were in Warren / White Co TN by 1806 (tax, land, signed petition 1806), then up to Gallatin IL, then settled Weakley Co TN around 1823 (land, tax, signed another petiton..this time to create Weakley Co) ..and so on.
There are quite a few of us related and involved in a DNA project on the McLAIN line ...all trying to break through a brick wall that 'seems' to lead from Brunswick / Surrey Co VA and a ?branch to PA, then down to NC (maybe Old Rowan / Lincoln, have new DNA candidate on that line) ..and then on to KY (Adair, Logan and more we think) ... too much data to post here.
If my branch from my ggg Charles b 1809 (son of Charles b 1784) that came to Lawrence Co AR is showing that the line had a LINGO / SMITH connection or alliance, I will spend more time on those side lines.
