Hello Terry, I'm a direct descendant of Basil (Basile, Basilio) Linescom/Lincecum/Linceum/Linsicomb and final spelling Linscomb. He settled in Opelousas (now in St Landry Parish), Louisiana. He is the founder of the Linscombe/Linscome line in Louisiana and the Linscomb line in Orange, Texas, and beyond. He's not the founder of the Lincecum line that claims famous naturalist Gideon Lincecum. Basile is a bit of an pistol to trace. His baptism records at St Landry church in Opelousas where he received the sacrement at 40 years of age states he did not know the name of his parents. However, on one of his children's baptism records, he says he is from Maryland and his father is "Jose" (Joseph) and his mother "Marie" (Mary) with maiden name "Bonnys" or "Borrys" or even "Kwowles".I have an Ancestry tree with over 6000 folk in the data bank, many of them related by blood or marriage.
To the point of my response:There is a theory that Basile is a son of Joseph, the son of Thomas Linthicum and Sarah Burton of Anne Arundel, MD. I am very interested in having a male descendant (my father/brother/nephew) DNA tested against a documented descendant of Thomas.
Any suggestions on procedures to make this happen is greatly appreciated. It would solve a long standing mystery for the Texas/Louisiana Linscombs. Hope others who are documented descendants of the Anne Arundel Linthicums will take part. Any takers?
