Sarah, My African American maternal side is traced to the Lipscombs of Spotsylvania County, VA, where one Joel Lipscomb later migrated to South Carolina and finally Alabama, where my grandmother's family were owned as slaves.I'm in process of writing a book on my grandmother's ancestors. You definetely need to vist the Library of Virginia in Richmond, VA!! I've been there 3 times. You need to check the manumission records which are found in the deeds book abstracts and order books on the shelves, and also the microfilm reels for probate estates and last will & testaments for Cumberland Co. I hope you will have great success in finding more documents. Might also contact a genealogy group in Cumberland Co. and ask them what files they have on Henry. But you truly must visit the library archives in Richmond. Any other questions, please ask me! Stephen.
