Thank you for the information on some of the other early Lisenby's in South Carolina. Now I'm REALLY wondering who "my" Hezekiah's father was! Because of what I had read on various online genealogy sites, I, too, thought until recently that Anthony Lisenby(39) was the father of Charles Lisenby(62) and my 4th great grandmother Sarah "Sally" Lisenby Marvel. When Nancy Pugh contacted me with information on Charles(62) and Orpha Marvel's wedding certificate naming Hezekiah Lisenby as Charles' father, I went looking for my own proof. The 1st proofs are are circumstantial:
1.Charles(62)and Sarah/Sally married siblings, Orpha and
John Rogers Marvel.
2.John Rogers Marvel(ca.13 Feb 1797)and Hezekiah "Lizinley"
(before 1775)were living near each other in Jackson
Co. Tennessee on the 1820 census. Hezekiah's household shows a male child in Charles' age group. John R. Marvel married Sally Lisenby on 18 December 1818, 4 years before his sister Orpha Marvel married Charles Lisenby in Livingston Co.,Kentucky in 1822. Their father Eli Marvill is in the 1810 Livingston Co. census (Crittenden Co. was formed from Livingston in 1842) and in the 1820 Livingston Census as Eli Marvel. My 3rd great grandfather, George Rogers Marvel, was born to John and Sally in 1826 in Livingston County, so the Marvel siblings were in the same county at least by then, if not earlier. I have found that families aften moved from place to place together.
The last proof that Anthony(39) and Elizabeth were not the parents of Charles(62)and Sarah/Sally is documented by the 1850 censuses. The Chesterfield County, South Carolina census shows both Anthony(39), age 85, and his wife Elizbeth, age 83, as still living together. The Crittendon County, Kentucky census shows Charles(62) WIDOWED mother Elizabeth, age 84 and born in South Carolina, living with him. So she could NOT have been married to Anthony(39).
Now the question for me is, is Charles' and Sarah's father(who I now do believe to be Hezekiah Lisenby, especially since he is listed as Charles' father on his wedding license), one of Charles C. Lisenby(26) and Elizabeth (Luther)'s OTHER sons, possibly Henry H.(Hezekiah?)(33)? Henry H.'s birth date of around 1754 fits with "my" Hezekiah's birth date and you show him as dying sometime after 1783...HMMMM. A new trail to follow. Again, thanks for all this wonderful information!!!
