Paul We are related, albeit distantly.I reckon we are 5th Cousins, give or take a generation or two.
I'm Phil Lobley, running the Lobley One-Name Study.Born and bred in Essex, I have traced my own family back to the 1750s in the West Hanningfield/Great Baddow area of the county.
We have a common ancestor inWilliam Lobley, born in 1791, the son of William Lobley and Mary Pickett. In 1818, he married Sarah Cage in Nevendon and had 9 children.Their second child, George, baptised in 1821 was your great, great, great, grandfather.Their fourth child, Jacob, was my great, great grandfather.
George married Susannah Hubbard in 1847 and had eight children, all baptised in Nevendon and Pitsea. Their second child, Godfrey married Sarah Ann Smith in Pitsea and had six children. Godfrey and Sarah Ann's second child, Arthur, married Annie Bibbey.
As for your Yorkshire query, I believe that the Lobley name originates in North Yorkshire.Certainly it was in evidence in the 1300s.If you would like more information, please let me know.
