Re: My Grandfather - FREDERICK LOCKYER (who wed Jane Masters: - He was a "ClockWatch" (made clocks, watches, etc.) and was also a Master Gunsmith. He was born at Angel House and lived and worked at Angel House all his life. Re: My Grandmother - JANE LOCKYER (NEE MASTERS): Before she married Frederick she was a cook for a family at Field Green House.(I believe Field Green House was also in Sandhurst). Re: Angel House: - Dates back to early 1700's or before. Was demolished in 1964.Was occupied by the Lockyers for many years. It was the village Ale House for many years before becoming two pubs. "The Swan" and the "Canterbury Bell". "Since its demolition in 1964 it is commenmorated by the name of the row of houses that replaced it, Angel Row, and, particularly, the bungalow at the end - which is called The Old Angel". (partial quote from records on hand)According to records I have found, it has a marvellous andvery vivid history too lengthy to list here.E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will gladly send you all that I can.
In addition to my Forum, I have a photo of a cousin, John Lockyer, which was taken during WW2 in Army dress. It is believed that he was in Stalag 17 during the war.He was also married to Vera. Anyone with information about John would be appreciated.
If anyone is interested in Sir Joseph Norman Lockyer famous astronomer/Scientist (discoverer of Helium) I have some very interesting data on him including the spot on the moon that was named after him.
