Darold John Londo, 85, 5580 Fish Road, Sturgeon Bay, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Sturgeon Bay, to Edward and Esther (Grovogel) Londo.?
After graduating from Sevastopol High School in 1941, he sailed the Great Lakes. He enlisted in the Marines March 1944, as a corporal. He participated in the Asiatic Pacific, Okinawa, Ryukyer islands and Japan until 1945. In July 1946, he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps.
June 5, 1948, he married Sylvia Mae Ash in New Holstein.
Darold enjoyed his job at Barker Washburn Lumberyard, where he worked as a millwright and carpenter.? He also liked farming and, when he retired, he started growing vegetables and fruits.? He also used his talents as a carpenter to create many craft items in his shop.
Darold is survived by his wife, Sylvia; son, Dale (Beverly) Londo, South Carolina; two daughters, Jane (Kenneth) Larson, Sturgeon Bay, and Barbara Londo, California; his grandchildren, Scott, Gayle, Stacy, Kelly, Carrie, and Robin; one great-grandson, Cameron; two step-great-granddaughters, Erin and Sarah; his sister, Beatrice (Lawrence) Simonar; sister-in-law, Eunice Londo; brother-in-law, Bernard Simonar, all of Sturgeon Bay; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Chester, Raymond and Melvin; one sister, Marian Simonar; and two sisters-in-law, Frieda and Joyce Londo.
A Lutheran burial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Valmy, with the Revs. Randall Styx and Ronald Ash officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Door County Detachment of the Marine Corps League. ?Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Huehns Funeral Home, and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A devotion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
