Jim-- That's the one. Robert Louden had an interesting career during the Civil War burning Union steamboats--lots of them (makes sense that a fireman would know how to make things burn). He also smuggled mail and dispatches between north and south, twice getting through the blockade of Vicksburg. He was caught and came very near to being hanged in mid-1864 in St. Louis, but escaped while being taken to Alton.
The rest of his story, before and after the war, is what I'm looking for.--Deb
