My maternal grandmother, Helen Lounsbury, wife of Lawrence A. Kennedy of Flushing, Queens County, NY, died in the Flu epidemic of 1918 when my mother was 10 months old.
In a photo of Helen Lounsbury Kennedy holding my mother is also her grandfather, who I believe to be James V. Lounsbury. (My gg grandfather)
He is wearing, I've been told, a Phi Beta Kappa keychain and he also has a medal on his chest, I believe it to be a Bronze Star. As he was too old to have been a veteran of the Spanish American War, I assume he was awarded this honor in the Civil War.
In my research of Civil War veterans named Lounsbury, I learned that only one person with that name had been awarded a Bronze Star: A James V. Lounsbury from the Syracuse, NY area. He served two enlistments.
James E. Lounsbury was my g grandfather and I was told he, his wife Helen and his Dau Helen were from Brookline, Mass.
Can anyone verify that James E was the son of James V?
I know my grandmother had a brother named James who worked in NYC for a publisher of religious materials and nothing more of him.
If anyone has info on this family line I would appreciate hearing from you. I'll gladly share the family info I have.
