>>>William Lowther, son of George and Martha (b. 1790, d. Mar 1860) m. 25 Nov 1817 Elizabeth Reed (b. 1793, d. 31 Aug 1872; b. and d. at Redworth, Yorkshire). 10 children.<<<
These two were my Great great great grandparents. One of their 10 children, also William, married a Susannah Summerton of Stranton (West Hartlepool) and moved to Hutton Henry. Their son Thomas was a train driver who married Margaret Outhwaite from Hartlepool. He moved there and raised a family of 11 children, one of these was my grandmother. There is a gravestone in Faceby churchyard, dedicated to another of William and Elizabeth's sons, Henry, and his family. Due to boundary changes, Carlton in Cleveland is what once was Carlton in Yorkshire. The 'in Cleveland' was added so as not to confuse it with another village called Carlton, which is near the River Tees. I had wondered about the Mormon connection too. I strongly suspect that the Lowthers who joined, did so when they settled in the USA. My Grandmother (May Lowther) was a chapel going Methodist, as were all of her family. The Lowthers remaining in this area (North East England) and the family of one of her brothers, who live in the London area, have no connections to the Mormon Church.
