Actually you weren't far off for Lottie and Mary's DOB.Lottie was born in 1885 and her mother was born in 1870.Mary was only 15 years older than Lottie.Lottie was only 15 when she married Joe LaPine. Lottie and Joe didn't have their own children.Their only child was my father--thru adoption.
When I was a kid, my grandmother, Lottie, lived in Hubbarton VT and was the only operator for miles around. The switchboard was right in the parlor (as they called it then).I remember staying with her quite often when I was very young and she would be at the switchboard for much of the time during the day.Every afternoon at 4 o'clock sharp, though, she would leave the switchboard for a few minutes go into the kitchen and make us spam sandwiches and tea.I sat in a chair beside the switchboard while she attended to calls and we'd have our little snack and chat until the phone rang again.I haven't eaten spam for years but every time I think of it I do so with great fondness. She was a terrific grandmother to me.(I was her first grandchild and, in her eyes, could do no wrong. She spoiled me more than a little and I loved every minute of it.)
Joe and Frank LaPine were brothers.Frank had a daughter, Shirley LaPine(Clark), of whom my dad was very fond.In fact, I was named after her. Frank's children, Elizabeth LaPine Petty King and Mary LaPine King married a father and son (but I don't know which one married which.)
Frank married Ellen Loya (Lottie's mother's sister). Lottie's brother, Harry, married Pauline Loya, but I'm not sure who Pauline's parents were.I have Pauline's DOB as 1886. I'll have to check with Mom to see if she can enlighten me.I'll let you know what I find out.
That's about it for now.I do enjoy hearing from you.Have a great week.
