My great great grandmother was born Agnes Loynachan in 1837 in Campbeltown. Married Alexander Clark in 1858 in Glenramskill (just outside Campbeltown) in 1858 then migrated to Australia in about 1861. Her parents were Alexander and Agnes (Armour) Loynachan. Her death certificate says her maiden name was Lang while her marriage certificate says it was Loynachan. I have since read that many of the Gaelic surnames in the area were anglicised during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was originally O'Loynachan which could very well point to an Irish connection, Kintyre being very close to Ireland. Very interested in any information you have found.
