I know this follow-up is years after I am putting a family tree togeather.
While it is for myself I am doing the work so my children can have a base to maybe build on.
That and I cant wait much longer as I am 51 and a few ofthe family with any info have passed on.
Anyway I have found that the way the Luedtke name is pronounced can be of some help.
While at an October fest here in So. Calif. back around 1983 by a group of older folks of German ancestry that how I said my name was different from the way they had heard it pronounced both here and in Germany. I learned to pronounce it as if it was spelled "LID-KEY"
I was born in Milwaukee,Wi. but moved to So.Calif. in 1967. There were no other Luedtkes anywhere around and none listed in the phone book until about 1985 when I saw one.
