Melvin Daymon Lunsford
LUNSFORD, Melvin Daymon - Age 88, of Sutherlin, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2001 from the effects of a stroke. He was born May 9, 1913 in Green City, Missouri, son of Noah and Lola (McGill) Lunsford. In 1933, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Bebout, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage last February. Mel grew up helping his father run a small sawmill in Iowa. He later worked in the sawmills in Coos Bay as well as the aircraft industry in San Diego. He retired in 1975 and they moved back to Oregon. In retirement, Mel and Myrtle park-hosted in Oregon in the summers and Southern California during the winters. They finally came back "home" to the Timber Valley SKP park in Sutherlin ten years ago. He attended the Sutherlin Assembly Of God Church. Mel was a gifted clockmaker and furniture maker. He also repaired and refinished furniture, particularly antique pieces. There was virtually nothing he could not fix or repair. His wood creations and handiwork are in the various homes of his family and relatives as a constant reminder of his generous and giving life. Mel was an avid fisherman in his younger years but mostly he was a loving grandpa and great-grandpa. He is survived by his wife Myrtle of Sutherlin, OR, Sons; Merle Lunsford & his wife Judy of Coos Bay,OR Bob Lunsford and his wife Lynn of San Diego, CA. Five grandchildren, Leigh Shore and Mark Lunsford of North Bend, OR., Jeff Lunsford of San Diego, CA and Nathan and Matthew Lunsford, both of Phoenix, AZ, Three great-grandchildren; Kara Shore of North Bend, OR and Nicole and Salvador Lunsford of San Diego, CA. A sister, Edith Parker of North Bend and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2001 at 2:30 P.M. at SKP Club House in Sutherlin. Arrangements are under the direction of TAYLOR'S FAMILY CHAPEL.
