This is a short summary on the life of my great great grandfather Carl Matthew Lux that my grandma's aunt, Anna Magdelena Lux, wrote. Anna is his daughter and she married Mr. Jessie Milo Miller.
Carl M. Lux was born February 6, 1852 in Waldorf, Rhein Province, Germany. When he was six days old his mother, Gertrude Kaymer Lux, died. Carl's father Conrad, was a farmer and lived and also died in Germany. Carl spent 30 years in Germany with his father, 2 sisters and a brother, during this time he spent two years in the German army, and worked several years in a Rhein province brewry. In 1883 Carl and 2 cousins decided to sail to the United States. The sea journey took 21 days. After landing in Philadelphia he immediately struck out for the west, settling in Kansas, where he spent one year. The United States government's Homestead Act with its Timber Claims appealed to him and he moved to Sioux county (Nebraska). There he searched the area and found his location northwest of Crawford, Nebraska, on the Little Cottonwood Creek. He maintained ownership of this land until his death in March of 1934.
