My g-g-grandparents, Florian and Theresia Lux, were born in Silesia and settled in Minnesota about 1855. = = = = =
Florian and Theresia Lux were born in Silesia, Prussia, at that time a German speaking area. It is now part of Dolnoslaskie province in southwestern Poland. They were married in Briesnitz, Silesia in 1850.Their first two children, Theresia and August, were born in Briesnitz, Silesia.
The LUX family left Prussia in about 1852. The 1900 Federal census indicates that Florian arrived in the United States in 1852. It is believed that they spent some time in Cleveland, Ohio, before making the journey to Minnesota. Their third child, Robert Lux, was born in Cleveland in May 1854. They probably traveled by riverboat, down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers to Shakopee. The 1895 Minnesota census indicates Florian arrived in Minnesota in 1856.
Florian quickly established a farm in Belle Plaine Township, south of Jordan, Minnesota. The 1880 platte map of Scott County shows that Florian owned 238 acres on the eastern border of the township.
Theresia passed away in May of 1878. In July of 1881, Johanna John [nee Knapp], widow of Richard John, also from Briesnitz, arrived in Jordan. She and Florian were married the same day, so it must be assumed that they knew one another in Silesia.
By 1895, Florian and Johanna had moved into the town of Jordan.
Florian died of chronic kidney disease on 18 May 1903. He is buried in the St. John the Baptist cemetery in Jordan.
