I don't know if this is your family, but I found the following: From the 1870 Vermont - Troy - Census: David Lyford - age 50 - b. VT Sylvia Lyford - age 52 - b. VT Charles Lyford - age 18 - b. VT Josephine Lyford - age 13 - b. VT
From the 1860 Vermont - Newport - Census David Lyfford - age 41 - b. VT Sylvia Lyfford - age 44 - b. ME Lavina Lyfford - age 18 - b. VT Susan Lyfford - age 17 - b. VT Lucinda Lyfford - age 12 - b. VT Althea Lyfford - age 10 - b. VT ? (Unable to read) Lyfford - age 8 - b. VT Josephine Lyfford - age 4 - b. VT One would assume that the child, age 8, was Charles per the 1870 census, but it's very unclear on the image (it almost looks like it starts with a "J". He may have had a nickname and that's what was used for the name on the census page.
In 1880 David and Sylvia were in Troy with two grandchildren in the household - Alberta Simpson - age 16 - b. PQ - and Charles Simpson - age 11 - b. VT (both parents of children shown as b. VT). David is shown as b. VT and both of David parent's are shown as b. NH. Sylvia is shown as b. ME, nothing indicated for father's place of birth and mother b. ME. This is not a family I am researching...just trying to help with a lookup. Nancy
