I have been in Invernessand on Skye for the last two weeks and spent lots of time with Alastair McLeod that Brilliant genealogistexpert historian for the highlands, and I have taken from the very old books there and reference books from the gaelic society, that for some reason are not available to the general public for purchase but which contain terrific information, and I have been to Dunvegan castle and met with the historian there,I went to Waitness which should really be named heaven it's so beautiful and met some of the MacDearmids there who are related and one cousin who knew of five past generations of men and their wives and childrens names!! Now I shall get all this together and post it all on our list ,probably next week, the most poignant find was a little MacDearmid drummer boy at Culloden!! and this as well, the MacDearmids were the original inhabitants of Skye but they were Campbells, one of the first campbells had a son Diarmid who's son became MacDearmid dropping the Campbell they became MacDearmids!! this from Alastair Mcleod, and the cemetery at waitness has many MacDearmid graves and in this little churchyard the church was the scene of a tragedy, the Campbells and the MacDearmids were at church when the MacDonalds crept up on them and locked them in the tiny church and burnt them all to death except for one old lady who raised the alarm, the MacDonalds did this for revenge for the killing of many McDonalds in a local cave, blood thirsty lot!! Till nest week. Ray Gavan.
