I am descended from an Ambroise Mace (with an accent over the 'e') from Canada. He married M. Marguerite Daigneau sometime in the 1700's. They had a daughter, M. Marguerite Mace, who married Joseph Roberge. They had lots of children, on of which was my great-great-grandfather, David Roberge, who came from Canada to New York. Does anybody know about Ambroise or who the first Mace in America was?
Somebody told me this: Jette is Rene Jette and he wrote the book, "Dictionnaire genealogique des familles du Quebec des origines a 1730". It is the 'authority' on colonial families in Quebec up to about 1730. There are also "Dictionnaire Nation des Canadiens Francais 1608 - 1760" by the Institut genealogique Drouin, called the RED DROUIN. Then there is also the PRDH at the Univ. of Montreal you can join and look up families. The PRDH has a webpage.
