Maciel's French etimology
Hi to all!
I'm from Brazil. My maternal grandfather had tolled his ancestrals are Frenchs and Spanishs. His mother had the Spanish surname Bueno. Then, i supose the French origin which my grandfa had tolled is Maciel, but when i had search by this name, i had met many infos which says the Maciel name origins is from France, others says it's from Portugal, Spain and Italy.
In accordance to the linguistic etimology, Maciel probably have a French origin. The sufix "iel" is common in France (for example, the protagonist of Victor Hugos's romance "Les misérables" is the bishop Charles-François Myriel), and in the Jewish names too (for example, Benoliel). In my searchs in Jewish databases around the world, i don't met Maciel. It's not a Jewish name, probably. Then, i suspect Maciel have a French origin, and i'm searching by the etimology of the word radical "mac" or "maci". I met a French surname apparently with the same radical: Maciet. The Marketing Director of Renault of Brazil is called Dominique Maciet. That's all i know by now. I hope this infos could help you.
Best regards!
