Thanks for the reply. I have a copy of the newspaper article you mention. In an earlier message here, you mentioned not knowing the name of John Mackay's daughter but no doubt you have discovered that since that posting. I looked up the war records of Francis Armstrong, the soldier killed at Gallipoli,and found that his wife Annie had remarried and become Mrs Mongomery. There is a letter in the file where she mentions a son, who would be John Mackay's grandson. Today I rang a woman who has done research on the history of Mackay, and to the best of her knowledge John Mackay was born in Bonar Bridge and moved with his family to Inverness where his father worked on an estate called Balnafioch. The IGI has a birth & baptism entry which looks quite possible, showing the baptism registration as Rogart, which is very near Bonar Bridge. Would welcome any further information people might have.
