Hi John,
I was very interested to stumble across your posting. I have been trying to establish the connection between John Mackenzie Tacksman of Galson, who died in 1816, (a 1827 court record of his will re: SC33/34/1 Stornoway Sheriff Court) and William Macgregor (b 1785/8 d 9 dec 1869), whoI understood to be Tacksman of Galson in 1820.
I have a copy of an old family tree which says that William inherited the farm from "a Mackenzie cousin of his half brother".
William became Tacksman of Barvas in 1841 and agent to the Seaforth family after his father in law, George Gillanders.
I'll send you copy of my family tree and should be delighted to hear if you can throw any more light on the Mackenzie connection.
Regards
Mike
