I'm looking for the parents of my g-g-g-grandparents, Neil MacDonald and Flora . They were both born about 1785, probably in North Uist. They had at least seven children: Archibald, Flora, Annie (my g-g-grandmother), Coll, Ronald, William, and Donald. There may have been another older son, Neil, thought to have been a schoolmaster, who remained in Scotland when the rest of the family emigrated to Cape Breton, Canada (1830s). All the children are thought to have been born in North Uist, but only Donald is known to have been born at Taigh Ghearraidh.
We don't know exactly long Neil & Flora stayed in Cape Breton, but by the summer of 1853, they were in Dawn Township, Ontario, where they both died in 1864. Daughter Flora had married Norman MacLean around 1842, and remained with her husband on their farm at Kennington Cove, Cape Breton. Annie married my g-g-grandfather Jim Coubrough in Halifax in 1851, and had four children. The rest of the family moved to Ontario in 1853. Jim & Annie went there, too, in 1857 or 8, and remained until their deaths in 1904 & 1902 respectively. As for Neil & Flora's sons, Archibald (d1860) had two daughters, Isabella & Flora; Coll married Mary Ann Graham, in 1869, and had two daughters; Ronald never married; William married Katherine MacDonald (no relation) and had 9 children; Donald married a woman named Anne, and had seven children.
I would be grateful for any information about the family of Neil MacDonald and Flora MacLean, but I would especially like to know who their parents were and what happened to son Neil. I am happy to share information I have about Annie's descendants.
