Since my original posting I have learned of(in the 1841 census (taken June 1841)) a family in the parish of Applecross, address Auchintraad:
Flora McKenzie30born c. 1811 John McKenzie30 bornc.1811 KennethMcKenzie4 bornc. 1837 MaryMcKenzie1bornc.1840 PeggyMcKenzie25 bornc.1826 WilliamMcKenzie7 bornc.1834 Flora McLean65
In the 1851 census (same place)
Flora McKenzieFarmer's wife46bornc. 1805 John McKenzieFarmer of two acres 52bornc.1799 William McKenzieFarmer's son16bornc.1835 Mary McKenzie11bornc.1840 Maggie McKenzie5bornc.1846 ElizabethMcKenzie2bornc.1849
I am wondering if this 'Elizabeth'could be 'Betsy Macrae" of the Temperance Hotel, Applecross. Can anyone assist with this?
There are variations in given birth dates above but I gather ages were rounded up & down. The variations in John'sDOB are especially noteworthy. However if there were both a rounding down and then a rounding up in different decades, then the difference could be explained (more or less). So perhaps these 2 census records are the same family(?)
You have seen my interest is in Marjory Bella Dawson - her mum was Mary Mckenzie and Mary may have had sister Betsy of the Applecross Inn -certainly my wife's mother (Winifred, New Zealand daughter of Marjory Bella) used to write to Betsy at the Applecross Inn often prior to about 1945.
