The Finlay you mention could be in the right time frame but it sounds as though he never left Kintail.
I have been trying to authenticate the connection of my gr.gr.grandfather Donald Munro (m. Mary MacRae in Glenshiel 1814) with the district ofLealty as the MacRae History refers to him as "…of the Lealty family in Ross-Shire." They would not get this wrong because of the tie between MacRae and Lealty Munro as recorded in MacKenzie’s History Of Clan Munro [chapter: THE MUNROS OF LEALTY, NOW ROCKFIELD, page 556] and reads:
FINLAY MACRAEby tradition was forced to leave Kintail and travelled to Easter Ross where he settled and had a son, DONALD.
DONALD MACRAE married the only daughter and heiress of Munro of Lealty, succeeded to her estate and assumed her name.
Child of DONALD MACRAE/MUNRO and ??? MUNRO is thought to be:
FINLAY MACCOILL VICNILLA MUNRO
If we can substantiate this link, we will have our tree complete.
