Thank you for the information on the Craven Maddux line. The "Hoss" you refer to may have been a nickname for one of the Maddux group, because there are several with similar first or second names--such as Craven Horton Maddux II, who may have taken a nickname to distinguish from his father. However, the Maddux tree has no Alexanders or Hoseas listed, so I believe the Alexander Madden family, with children John, Jenny, William, Hosea, Wiley, and Elisha, is not from the same tree at all. Since both the Maddux and Madden families lived in Dist. 12, Jackson Co., TN, in 1850 and earlier, it becomes confusing--perhaps for the census enumerator, also.Do you have any information on Maddens of the Cane Creek area?
