John Phillip (Bud) Magnus was born on October 23, 1922 on a farm near Avoca, MN to John E. and Rose F. Legler Magnus. Bud grew up on the family farm and attended School for the Deaf in Rochester, MN. Bud farmed on the family farm until April 2007. Due to failing health Bud moved to the Atrium High Rise in Worthington.Bud passed away on March 30, 2008 at the Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, MN at the age of 85.He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN.Bud enjoyed working with his hands, farming, being outdoors, and driving around town. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bud had a passion for dogs.
Survivors include one brother, Clarence Magnus and his wife, Alice of Slayton, MN, six sisters, Frances Guild of Slayton, MN, Helen Haack of Alexandria, MN, Mary Lund and her husband, Manley of Adrian, MN, Evelyn Vogel and her huband, William of Currie, MN, Dorothy Balfanz of Dundee, MN, and Rosie Rogers of Worthington, MN, one brother in-law, Robert Bruce, of Irvine, CA, and one sister in-law, Lucille Magnus of Avoca, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Verna Bruce, one brother, Franklin Magnus, and four brother in-laws, Clarence Guild, Delbert Balfanz, Herman Haack, and Edwin Rogers.
Funeral Service were held at Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ted Knuze officiating. The organist is Sherri Isder with special music by Janice Berger. The pallbearers are Arnold Guild, Larry Balfanz, Gerald Magnus, Terry Rogers, Keith Balk, and David Vogel. Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery rural, Avoca, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton in charge of arrangements.
