I was wondering if anyone could help on my great-grandmother, Arrabanrion Magruder.
She was born Dec. 9, 1839. The first record I have of her is her marriage to my great-grandfather, John Ludwell Armstrong, in Clay County, Ga. Nov. 7, 1861. They lived in Quitman Co. Georgia until 1885 when they moved to Geneva County, Ala. where they lived until she died Feb. 23, 1904.
I have assumed that she was the daughter of James T. Magruder, born abt. 1819 in Columbia Co., Georgia, and his wife Henrietta, (maiden name unknown), because in the 1860 Clay County, Ga. census this Magruder family is living two houses down from John Ludwell Armstrong's family. I have not been able to find any proof of this, however, and I have been unable to find James T. Magruder's family in the 1850 census. James T. Magruder was the son of George and Susannah C. Williams Magruder of Columbia County, Georgia; George Magruder in turn was the son of Ninion Offut Magruder and Mary Harris.
Census data does not entirely agree with Arrabanrion being the daughter of James T. however; in the 1870 census she is listed as born in Georgia, but in the 1900 census she is listed as born in Alabama with her father as born in North Carolina and her mother as born in Georgia. The only Magruder I have been able to find in early Alabama was a W.R. McGruder in Macon Co. Alabama in 1840. I have found records of some other Magruders in Clay County, Ga. at this time, including a W.H. Magruder and H.H. Magruder, about whom I have not been able to find any additional information.
I would very much appreciate help from any of you or if you would know anyone familiar with this line I could contact. In addition of reply on genforum, I would appreciate if you would e-mail me direct with any response.
