Hi, I have traced the Mahaney's to Ireland the name is from County Cork and they have there own O'Mahony society at www.omahonysociety.org. My group came from the south of Cork but the name is traced back to the 12th century and most are desecendants of Brian Baru the King of Ireland. To narrow your search you need the town, or townland name in county Cork, if researching in Ireland I went to the Irish Archieve in Dublin with the townland name, they gave the reel # of the film for the church records and I was able to find my people. You can also find them on the the Poor Law tax list and Griffith Valuation of 1852,some libraries have copies. The Griffith, has a townland name and location on the location in the townland where they lived and you can get the Ordinance Map in Dublin that markes the spot.
