Looking for any information out their on James P. Mahar (born 1845 in Perry, Maine) the son ofEmily Leighton and James Mahar. James and his brother Mark were 2 of 7 children that survived to adulthood from this family . James Mahar sr. died in 1847 and Emily was a widow in the Census of 1850 with only two of her children Mark and James. Both sons served in the Civil War. James , listed as farmer from Perry, Maine, on Dec. 16, 1861, in Co. I, 30th Mass. Infantry Regiment. Recieved a disability discharge from Co. I, 30th Mass. Infantry, Regiment on April 2, 1862 in Ships Island, MS. His widow Catherine, from unknown state, applied for a Pension around 1878. I cannot find James in the census of 1870 and may be wrong about the 1878 date.(Not Clear). The brother ofJames , Mark, served in the Civil war, and Like James, is on the Perry, Maine monument for his service. Mark became a great Lakes sailor, lived in Black River, Ohio in 1900 and his wife Hulda G. said she had 3 children and one survived. Mark was married around 1877. His daughter, that was living in 1900 was Maude and she was born in 1881. Maude probably was married between 1900 and 1910. The two that were dead by 1900 are still a mystery.
