I am looking for info about John Maine(s) who was born in the Philadelphia. Pa area[supposedly of Dutch descent], I am suspecting in the 1785 to 1795 yearas. He married a woman whose last name was Green. She is supposed to have been the daughter of a Col. Green who was either outright British or served with the British in the American Revolution...then moved to Canada.
John Maine(s) and this unnamed Green married about 1810 and had ELEANOR/ ELENOR Maine, b. Nov 6 1812...the family lived neara St. Thomas, Ontario.
Eleanor married Stephen van Renesselaer Bishop Feb 22, 1833 [I have seen this info on the net, from Canada records!] Stephen and Eleanor Bishop lived on a tract of 100 acres on the Thames River near Bothwelltown, Ontario and northeast of Chatham. They later moved to a farm in the township of Kent in Oxford County, Ontario, nothewest of Palmyra [where they were buried].
I have rather good records of the resulting family [they had 11 children!], but would love to find out more about the Maine/Maines and Green lines. Thank you for any help, Jan Hart
