I agree George was not born in Pittsburg, as the date of his birth and Pittsburg starting do not match. Mary Mains wife of George Mains of Bracken County, KY is not Mary Vane.DNA proved that and other Mains researchers are not accepting that fact. Although marriages did happen at that early age for females.
Polly Thorp or Mary Mains Thorp/Tharp as far as my records show did not marry James Daugherty.Rosemarie Pell documented from original records that James Daughtery married Polly Marris marriage bond 21 Sep 1818, James Daugherty and George Marris, secs.John Colglazer attest to MB
In June 2004, I was at the courthouse and in the original records for the marriages which is a separate room, and did not find a Polly or Mary Mains married to a James Daughtery. I relooked at all my copies of Mains marriages I got that day and do not have a James Daughtery. I have Mary Thorp/Tharp 4 children in the 1850 census in Bracken Co KY. Name; Age James Tharp; 31son, Mary Tharp; 71Mother George Tharp; 41son Jane Tharp; 36daughter Amanda Clarke; 33daughter married a Clarke Mary Clarke; 7daughter of Amanda Ann Thome; 10not sure who this is.
She is married to Abraham Thorpe in 1830 as she and Abraham are listed as heirs in George's will.I have all the papers for the will. If George above was born in 1841, my guess is they were married prior to 1808.According Pell's book, there is a marriage of Abraham Tharp/e and Mary Daougherty/Daugherty on 16 Oct 1832, which does not fit the information in George Mains will.secs is a Jacob Maines.Lots to think about.
This is my take on this information.I have my cousin Bill Owen's papers which were reprinted in Wm & Mary Quarterly, had the Abraham Thorpe/Tharpe information for a starter for a search for me.
