Renee Maire Crum was my grandmother. She was not born in France but here in the US in Basco, Hancock County, Illinois. She died in Quincy, Illinois in about 1954 at the age of 88.
Alexandre Maire and Marie Anne Lorentz had one child, Frederick Maire. He was born in Dec. 31,1844 in Altkirch, Alsace Loraine, France.
The family migrated to the US in June 1856 aboard the Steamship Fulton out of Le Harve. The spent one year in New York State and then migrated to Basco, Hancock County, Illinois.
There he married Hannah Fisher and had the following children: Marie, Theresa, Renee, Annette Alexandrine, Elizabeth, Louise, Paul and Samuel.
The entire family moved to York County, Virginia in the early 1870s and later moved to Newark, NJ. Alexandre Maire had a book store in lower Manhattan.
In the 1880s, Alexandre and Mary Anne Maire returned to France with their grandaughter Marie. Alexandre died in France in 1893 and Mary Anne died in 1891. Marie married Cyprion Bedouin and had two children, Andre and Simone.
Frederick died in Warsaw, Hancock County, Illinois, Aug 11, 1911.
