There seem to be just too many Alexander Maitland’s. My wife’s grandfather was Wyley McChesney Maitland, b. 5/26/1880. He was married, for a short time, to Marie Lessor. They lived in Warren, PA and had two daughters then he evidently disappeared. I got most of my information from Marie, since I knew her well. (No documentation.) However, she revealed nothing of her own heritage. Wyley shows up in the 1910 Census as single, age 30, living in New York. I have Wyley’s father as John Preston Maitland, December 13, 1844 to August 15, 1923, married to Martha Leotta McChesney, March 23, 1852 to April 28, 1900. Martha’s father was D Wylie McChesney, February 08, 1813 to (?). I believe John’s father was Alexander Maitland, March 1815 to July 30, 1895, married to Elizabeth Lee Forker, June 09, 1822 to November 13, 1884. I have this Alexander’s father as Andrew Maitland,b.1777, m. Rachel Henry, and son of another Alexander Maitland, b. c. 1732 in Scotland. If I’m correct, I have the Forker side back to Adam Farquhar, 1720 to 1780 in New jersey, where the name changed to Forker. My major problem is figuring out all of the Alexanders.I would like to trace the Maitlands further back.
