ORANGE CO NC: Sept 13, 1798Thomas Trice vs. Francis Morland in court The following is copied from the original in NC Archives files. “John Daniel was the overseer to Henry Trice as recorded in a deposition made on 25 June 1799 in a suite by Thomas Trice against Francis Moreland and others. Original is in NC Archives. John Daniel testifies that "…34 or 35 years ago he saw Thomas Trice going home from the house of his Father-in-law Bernard Major of Dinwiddie County in the State of Virginia and that this happened the day after the said Thomas had married the said Bernard's daughter…". He also states that "…after Thomas Trice came to North Carolina this Deponent who had also come to this State engaged with him as his overseer …." and further states "…be 35 years next September since Mr. Trice was married so that I believe I was about twenty one at that time" and later "… I was well acquainted at both the houses of Mr. Major and Mr. Trice"
