John and Mary Maloy lived in "Cavanrhea" District of Monaghan, Ireland and had a son named Edward Maloy born on 13 Aug 1870 in Ireland.Have found no documentation of "Cavanrhea" in limited searches so far, but all of the information noted so far was found on my supposed great grandfather, Edward Maloy's birth certificate.
Also have marriage certificate from Scotland of Edward Malloy, note spelling of his name changed from Maloy to Malloy here; he married Gertrude Margaret Burns who appears to have been from Ireland as well. On this document, Edward's father, John, was noted as being a farmer.Edward Malloy and Gertrude Margaret Burns were married in Scotland on 6 Apr 1896 at Motherwell Chapel of Dalziel.Gertrude's father appears to be a foreman in steel work but not writing is not so easy to read.
Next documentation I have is birth certificate of my grandfather, Peter (Joseph) Malloy, who was born to Edward Malloy, Enginekeeper and Gertrude Margaret Malloy in Parish of Dalziel County of Lanark Scotland on 7 May 1908.I am told Edward may have been on the run from law enforcement so they moved to Scotland. Also told Edward and Gertrude Margaret ran a grocery store and pub (go figure) in Scotland and within about a year of my grandfather Peter's birth, Edward and Gertrude Margaret took Peter and his other siblings (John, Mary, and Robert) to Canada and then eventually to the U.S. where they settled in Rhode Island. Another child was born to Edward and Gertrude Margaret, little Gertrude guess you could say.
Also have a death certificate for Edward Fitzgerald Malloy who passed away in Pawtucket, RI, in February 1934 but shows his DOB as 25 Dec 1872 and his wife's name as to Margaret Burns Malloy (gave up "Gertrude" I guess). So, dates of birth for Edward are mismatched by about two plus years; not so sure the original birth certificate for Edward Maloy is that of my family but who knows how accurate old records are. However, Edward Malloy's death certificate also shows his father as John Malloy and mother Mary Smith, both from Ireland.Looks like Edward also worked for Collins Bros. Machine Company as an engineer and fireman based off of the death certificate.
Was also told my grandfather Peter's oldest brother, John, was sickly and spent summers in Ireland. Also was told Margaret Burns Malloy may have returned to Scotland where she passed away. She may have had two brothers, one named Henry who was from England. This part is all hearsay, so who knows.
Am trying to research more info on family history as my Malloy clan (ha ha) here in the U.S. (grandpa Peter's son and grandaughters!) are visiting Ireland in July 09 and would love to meet relatives or find a family grave site!If anything rings a bell, give a shout!
