According to the research done by Alden MANCHESTER, which he has recently revised, Peleg MANCHESTER was born abt. 1730.He was the son of John MANCHESTER and Phebe GRAY.John was born abt. 1690, and died 1766 in Tiverton, RI.He married Phebe GRAY Mar 22, 1718/1719 in Thomas Church, Justice of the Peace, Tiverton, RI.She was born 6 SEP 1699.Phebe was the daughter of Edward GRAY and Mary SMITH (Tiverton V.R.) This John was the son of John MANCHESTER, b. abt. 1656 in Portsmouth, RI, and d. 1708 in Portsmouth.The father John married Mary (beleived to be GRINNELL).She died 1703. He was admitted as a freeman of Portsmouth on 25 APR 1672, and served as constable in 1694/95 - according to Portsmouth town records. According to Alden's research, John, b. abt. 1656, was granted the mansion house and lands at Portsmouth of his fahter's, except for the lower end of the grounds in possession of Thomas. He also was granted 1/2 of his personal effects at his father's death, and he had to pay his brothers sums on their father's death. Alden has done research for many, many years and has compiled his research, which was published as "The Manchester Family of Rhode Island", by Alden and Rita C. Manchester. As I said, he has updated his research on the Manchester family. I was given a copy by my brother after he recently talked with Alden.
