Denis Manes-1660's French Huguenot refugee (to England/Ireland/Scotland/Wales)
Looking for possible French ancestor: Denis Manes. He was a "master" (attorney) in France for "twenty years", back from the date of 1689. He was a French Huguenot refugee who moved about Ireland, Scotland, and England. Also possibly Wales. He received patents from the English King to build two paper mills and was partners with Nicholas Dupin and Nicholas DeChamp. Also involved with a Crommewell in the same line. Last in England (1703)after returning to England from France, where he had been in prison for 10-14 years for entering back into France to obtain workers for his mill. Cannot locate any children, marriage, etc. I have scholarly cited sources for the above. In the process of checking with the Huguenot Society for help with research.
Earliest American Manes ancestor from our DNA line shows a William Manes circa 1715, who died in 1787 Moore County, N.C.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Susan Manes
