All I can tell you at present is written below. I'd be fascinated if you could fill in any more details for me, as I am trying to follow up various other rumours of the MANNERS family in China. My Uncle John is not your uncle Billie's son, as he is currently 97, and the oldest member of the MCC!
Charles M MANNERS (b England, d 1945 of malnutrition following internment at the Kowloon Hotel, Hong Kong, and is buried in Stanley Cemetery) m twice. His first wife, and whether he had any children by her, are unknown. According to Uncle John, he married a Chinese-looking Eurasian girl with a completely blonde sister who married someone else Uncle John knew – I think this was JC ‘Pops’ MANNERS; John found himself sitting next to her on Bondi Beach one day. He m (2) in Shanghai Agnes Moran c 1930. He knew my grandfather Errol MANNERS, and used to visit him both in the UK (EM took them to Belvoir) and on board ship when EM was in Shanghai (Joyce Astwood remembers him). CHECK: Also according to Joyce Astwood, following WW1 he trained troops in both India and China, and later (when?) he was awarded the VC. He worked for the Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company.
I have (somewhere) Joyce Astwood's letter, and if I can find it I will learn where she fits into the puzzle. Unless you know already?
