My great-great grandmother was Arizona Manning. She was born in 1860 I think in St. Louis. She married George Hind in 1899 and they lived in Pike county, Missouri.
Arizona's death certificate lists her parents as George Manning and Catherine King. I found Catherine in the 1870 census. I guess George was already gone.
1870 Census Jane Manning F 42y James Manning M 26y Virginia Manning F 21y Arizona Manning F 10y Nellie Manning F 7y Ida Manning F 5y
This is my Arizona Manning and her family, but it calls her mother "Jane."
Here's the 1880 census. It lists James as the parent, which makes no sense. Maybe George's real name was James and his son was named James? 1880 Census Parent James Manning M 52 Parent Catherine Manning F 42 Virginia Manning F 28 Ann Manning F 26 Nellie Manning F 18 Ida Manning F 16
The ages on the 1880 census are all mixed up as well.
I can't make any sense of it.
There's another 1880 census 1880 Census James Manning M 36 Parent Catherine Manning F 57 Virginia Manning F 28 Arizona Manning F 19 Nellie Manning F 17 Ida Manning F 15 Fredrick Manning M 8
This one shows James as the son and Catherine as his mother, so I'm thinking this must be the correct one. Frederick is listed as Catherine's grandson.
George was apparently born in West Virginia and Catherine in New York (about 1823), but I can't find any records of them earlier than 1870.
If anybody knows anything about this family I would appreciate any info. I've hit a brick wall here.
