The name MANTAJchanged/was corrupted when Sam came to England as German prisoner of war. Else (his wife) and their children were turned out of Poland as refugees (all ethnic Germans were removed from Poland, they lost everything) , she thought her husband dead. Finally, she recieved news that Sam had been captured by the Americansin Paris and shipped to England. She later followed him. They both died here in England.
This information below was taken from documents granted in Poland when the German/Poles had to prove there was no Jewish blood in the family. Frightening isn’t it? The MANTEI family were ethnic Germans living in Poland at the outbreak of WWll.
