What a story! That is most mystifying.I am not familiar with the name Emil but I only have one Mantaj name to go by.This was my great grandmother, Olga who married Karl August Gugacz in Lodz, Trinity church probably between 1880 and 1890.My immediate family stayed in Poland until 1945, then went to Germany until we were able to come to the US.There is some work being done with the genealogy of this church membership, so I hope to know more.I'll keep you informed.
My best to you, Jan Peters
Emil and I both applied for check-cashing cards at a Bloomington, Indiana grocery around 1965. When they got switched, we met and talked. Our fathers were both named Ludwig Mantei. Emil asked his folks at Christmas break about a possible relation to my family. They told him to never speak to me; I never discovered why. I tried to speak with him twice but he didn't want to so I gave up.
I'm sorry our friendship evaporated so mysteriously. If anyone knows anything about this please email me. Dr. Kenneth Mantei firstname.lastname@example.org
PS: My Mantei forebears came from Berezno, 50 miles NE from Rovno, Ukraine around 1903. Please forgive me if I am inappropriate here. . . I just stumbled in, not actively searching anything at the moment.
