Do you know precisely where your grandfather lived. My father Jacob, also bore the name Mantei. He was born in 1916, lived in what is now Ukraine, near the town of Zhitomir. His family was also German, and had to emigrate to the Ukraine in the nineteenth century or earlier. Before the end of the war he fled from the Red Army but was stopped in an area where it is now Poland. He managed to escape from Soviet transport to the east. Later changed his name to Zacharski and lived their lives on foreign soil. He died in 1976, keeping his past a secret until the end of his days. By the end he feared that in case of slip would have to return to Russia. The truth came to light when the documents came from the German Red Cross. Then it turned out that before his death, my father quietly looking for their relatives in Germany. Now, with his brother plays we toil our genealogy. If you see any sense of cooperation it please contact us.
with greetings
