Catherine, wife of Benjamin Maple (1766-1823), PA-KY-IN
Does anyone know (or have a way of helping me discover) the maiden name of Catherine Maple?According to the Society of Indiana Pioneers, she was born in 1768, in Pennsylvania. The 1790 Pennsylvania Federal Census alludes to a Benjamin Maple (her husband...I do not know when they married) residing in Washington County in the southwest corner of that state. There is a village called Mapleton in Monongahela Township in Greene Co., PA, which became separate from Washington Co. in 1796.According to other information, Benjamin and Catherine and their children resided in this area between 1787 and 1796, at which time they moved to present-day Mason Co., KY, and later, Franklin Co., IN, near the present-day town of Laurel.Benjamin was apparently originally from near present-day Princeton, NJ; there was a "Mapleton" in West Windsor Twp. in either Middlesex or Mercer Counties in New Jersey.
Any information or assistance which anyone has in this matter will be greatly appreciated. --- Sybil Urquhart
