Leonard Marbury is MY BRICK WALL.(So many Marbury names are
repetitious that I cannot sort them)I am working in another area.
Leonard apparently inherited property from an estate in Georgia. A portion of that estate were slaves. He or agents returned to Georgia and brought them to Alabama between 1847 and 1848.(My gggrand father was born in 1848 and the previous child was born in 1847 in Georgia.
I am seeking what means Leonard came by these slaves, his parentage,
and siblings.I have come across bits and pieces (such as a TN
connection) but nothing definitive.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
This is what I have found in the Federal Census:
1820Leonard Marbury, Edgefield, SC
1830Leonard Marbury, Montgomery Co, AL
1840Leonard Marbury, Coosa County, AL
1850Leonard Marbury, Coosa County, AL
1st census with family and age.Leonard was
56 indicating that he was born about 1793/4. This year
does correspond to his age for 1820, 1830, 1840.
His son Thomas was 16 indicating a birth year of 1834
and born in Alabama.
1860Leonard Marberry, Coosa County, AL
in 1860, he had 82 slaves on the slave census.
1870Leonard Marbury,Dinwiddie, VA
Seems to have left AL after emancipation.Son
Thomas remained and is in the book "History of
Coosa Co." 1999
