Did you check the 1889 U. S. Census.FYI: The Mormon Church has recently issued a complete 1880 U. S. Census on CD's. One of the census CDs includes the entire 1880 Louisiana Census and searches can be made by race, surname, gender, civil parish (county) etc. There very good search capabilities accompanying those CDs. Separate searches would have to be made for Black and Mulatto since there is no single choice which would include both.

Census and Vital Records Item 50168000 1880 U.S. Census, complete record $49.00
If there is a Mormon church within commuting distance of you, their Family History Center which is free and open to the public may have the 1880 U. S. Census on CDs. The Family History Center locations can be found at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asphttp://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp
Good Luck
