Marcum connection to the Dempsey family in Warfield, Martin Co., KY
Re: Rebecca Jane (Marcum), daughter of Thomas & Virginia Jane (Beavers) Marcum.
Rebecca Jane is identified as age 8 (born 1872) on the 1880 Martin Co., KY census with her widowed mother Jane in household #150.
Later Rebecca Jane is identified as “R. Jane” Marcum on the 1900 Logan Co., WV census in household #399. Once again she is living with her widowed mother Jane or Virginia Jane (Beavers) Marcum. On this entry Rebecca Jane has two daughters with the Dempsey surname. The daughters were Blanche Dempsey age 8 b. Feb 1892 and Florence Dempsey age 6 b. Apr. 1894. The census also indicated the girls were all born in KY in addition to their parents. On WorldConnect, there is a source that shows there was another daughter Mae. Is this the same Mae who married Charles Sink and became a teacher in Warfield, KY?
I agree with the conclusion on the WorldConnect source mentioned above that the girls’ father was John Dempsey born 1860, son of Mark Dempsey; however the following 1900 census excerpt shows John was living with his mother with no children:
1900 Martin Co., KY census
Magisterial District No. 1
#270 Dempsey, John Head w m Mch 1860 40 s KY WV VA Merchant
Lucinda mother w f May 1843 67 Wd VA KY KY
Hammons, Jane Servant w f April 1850 50 Wd KY KY KY
Does anyone know if there is a marriage record for Rebecca Jane (Marcum) & John Dempsey?
