Ludvig Nicholas Scheel 1796-1874 of Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) married 1827 Sarah Margarethe Markoe 1807-1876. She was from St. Croix. Danish West Indies.
In some records (LDS site, Sadolins) she is identified as Zahra Markoe but the Dansk biograisk Lexicon shows she is Sarah, born West Indies. In the 1850 Copenhagen census she is shown as L.M. Scheel born St. Croix.
Her husband's various titles were:
Knight of the Order of the Elephant (nb highest ranking order in DK) Knight of the Order of the Grand Cross, privy Councillor, High President of Altona, Land Seneschal of Pineburg, County President of Gottorp & Hutten, Order vice Chancellor of the Court. Public offices: Minister of Holsten, Minister of Lauenburg, Minister of Schleswig and later Minister of Foreign Affairs (Government) and President of the Schleswig Parliament.
I am trying to identify Sarah's parents. Only other Markoe found same period nearby is John Meyer Markoe, son of Abraham Markoe Jr. He was living 1845 Sydslesvig (which I believe is Schleswig) with wife Louise Delbanco; occupation "actuar".
Other known Markoe-Scheel Danish connection is Ann Prom who married Henrik Jorgen Scheel about 1836 Denmark. Ann was daughter of Samuel Prom and Elizabeth Markoe - Elizabeth the daughter of Francis Markoe and Elizabeth Hartman of St. Croix. Don't know if the two Scheels were related.
The Ludwig/Sarah marriage is not found in any of the published, conventional Markoe histories.
